Thursday Challenge

Hi all,

My turn again for the challenge.

This last weekend we had a Retreat at the shop. My good friend Tina's daughter - the very tallented Linda was there. She shared with us lots of wonderful things to make for next to nothing.

So I am sharing one of them with you....share and share alike.

This little self standing album is made from one manilla folder.

Take your folder and lay it out flat, now fold over the bottom edge - approx 3"

Now fold that over again - making it double thick at the bottom, then fold in half like you were closing the file. Fold in half the front and the back to make hills, check out the pic and you will see what I mean.

Now when you stand it up on the thick bottom edge, your album is ready to decorate, front and back.

To make the ends of the pockets secure you can put a decorated paperclip or do what I did and staple them.

Then make some cards to put in the pockets and you are done.

I still have one card to do, waiting on a photo.
I am going to give my album to my Mum...shhh don't tell her it is a surprise.

I would love for you to give this a go and share your end results with us in the gallery.

Have fun.
Marg.

your weekend challenge ...

sorry I'm a little on the late side ... blame it on a few computer problems ...

Your challenge this weekend - to take something from this photo that has inspired you to create.

It could be the colour scheme - a little white, purple, green and black ...

It could be the scrolls.

It could be the drawer and the panels - perhaps three sections on your layout or card.

It could be butterflies and flowers.

It could be lots of things really.

Enjoy creating and don't forget to upload to the gallery.
Have fun.

Let's play a little ...

with punches.

How many of you have got a punch or two lying around in your scrap room, buried in amongst your stash ... how about you drag them out and play a little with them.

I grabbed a couple of round punches, circle punches, you know the ones ...

I punched two circles, I distressed them a little, I hand sewed around the edges and made them to be used as journalling spots ... how easy was that?  A handmade embellishment.

I punched a few more circles, inked them, cut them in half and used them to make a scalloped edge border.

Nothing difficult about either of them girls.

I moved the circles around, added a few different embellishments, just to play ... haven't stuck anything down ... just paper shuffling.

Remember last year when I made these paper flowers ... they too started off as punched out circles.

Those paper circles were torn a little, distressed a little, inked a little, layered a little ...

and voila ...

now back to those punched out circles ...

I moved them around a little bit more [as you do] ... I have added a few bits and bobs
that were lying around, I kid you not ... this is a real bitser layout.

As you can see, I haven't used much patterned paper ... ummmmmmmmmm ... how about one piece from a 6x6 paper pad to be exact ... a little twine, a few flowers, a little chippie, some scrap card and there you have it.

I'm still having a play with those circle punches ... will share at some stage.

So grab one of your punches and have a play with it ... oops, be creative with it.

Marg has plenty of punches available in the shop ... go for it.

Happy creating.

Weekend challenge

Well it's my turn for a challenge for you and here is a little sketch I just whipped up...

Hope it takes your fancy!

Thursday, 14 July 2011

Good morning everyone,
My turn for a challenge….I went shopping on the weekend…this may not be a biggie for most, but I am NOT a shopper!! Anyway when I was out and about I found a funky necklace that took my fancy.
It had a flower made from a zip on it…..so I thought I would have a go at making one and share it with you.
Depending on how long your zip is as to how big your flower will be. I only had smallish zips so I needed 1 and a half to make my flower.

First you need to separate the zips…then do a running stitch along the bottom edge of one of them.

Then you pull this thread until the flower curls up....I put a few stitches to make it stay where I wanted it to go.
Then with your other bits, fold the ends to the middle as per the pic and stitch to hold….these are extra petals you will want 5 of these.

Now all you have to do is stick it all together with a hot glue gun.

My challenge to you is to have a go at making a flower or any other embellishment with a zip, then use it on a layout....looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

I will try to do a page to use my flower on and share in the gallery.

Have fun,
Marg.

Tuesday, 12 July 2011

and another Tuesday rolls around again ...

My challenge for you today ladies ... are you ready?

To create a layout or a card ... yep, a layout or a card ...

but ... now you didn't think you would get away quite that easy now, did you?

Your card or layout must feature the following colours - white, black, red and yellow.

Now as a rule, you don't normally see too much yellow or red for that matter happening in my creativity.  But it does happen [sometimes].

And ... there's one more ... I want to see some type of calendar - could be 12 months, could be a month.  That's totally up to you.

There are lots of places that you can visit and grab a calendar template.  I found this template on the Crafty Secrets website. It says that it is for personal use only. I made the card for a friend and work colleague, so I trust that's what they mean for personal use only.

But you can google to your hearts content and find a calendar template.

Happy creating and don't forget to load your creations into the gallery.

Wrap up warm.

Here's my example, to show it's easier than you think!

That's 10 photos in all!, a few stickers, some pp scraps, stamp, lettering and a couple of journal tags makes a nice quick page with a story to tell!

My challenge on the blog this weekend is to do a page using a die cut paper...either a shop bought one or one you have cut yourself.
Also use punches, a mixed media title, ribbon flowers and some hand doodling.....(mine is the white stitches around the scalloped edge, sorry doesn't show up very well here)

a Challenge ...

and it's my turn to put a challenge up.

I've had my thinking cap on and trust me ... no idea on why I thought of this one ...

But here it is.

My challenge ... grab your camera.  I want you to take a photo, if need be take more than one photo if you like scrapping multi photo layouts.

But I want you to take your photo from the inside of your home, looking out.  No staged photos in any way, shape or form.

If you open up your garage door, stand in the garage doorway and take a photo of what you see, looking out.

If you open up your kitchen window, your front door, your back door, your bedroom window ... take a photo looking out and scrap it.

It's a view you see every day ... but have you scrapped it before now?

I want you to promise me, that the better part of your body is actually inside, when you are taking your photo.

Make sense?

Hope so.

Now get creative, both with your camera and your creativity.
Don't forget to upload into the gallery.
Wrap up warm.

July Designer Kit Sneak Peeks....

Bright, and bubbly

Tuesday Challenge.....

From This to This in..........not very long at all! I forgot to time it but it really wasn't very long!)

Yesterday I found wht I thought was an address book, reduced from $20 to $2. When I took the cover off I found they had cleverly placed the 10 page address book over the  front of an (almost half way through the year) Diary! Sneaky. But $2.00 is $2.00 so I went ahead and decorated it, although a little less extravagantly since it won't be as well used as I first thought!
I have used 2 scraps of paper (October Afternoon and MME), Some lace, a rub on and a flower made using my Tim Holtz die.

Now go forth and create something which was previously something else....... That's it. The Challenge is alter or create something Off the Page.
Good luck..Happy Scrapping!

Thursday's Challenge....

Good morning everyone, I am rushing out the door to work today and I quickly remembered that it was my turn to set the blog challenge.

Mine is going to be a little bit of a challenge - but will also be fun...

What I would like you to do is try something NEW!!!!

Recently I discovered a canvas making Technique that I have thoroughly fallen in love with and when I get time will continue making a load more of them - not sure what for yet - but I will make some more. Might have to start giving them away or my wall will be covered in them... LOL

Thanks to Nic Pomeroy for the inspiration. My canvases can be seen in the gallery along with 2 that my DD and her friend have made.

So your challenge is to use the internet, magazines, whatever (Youtube is a great place to discover and learn techniques) to find a NEW technique and try it out!

Have fun, and catch you all soon.

Have a great Thursday

Tuesdays Challenge

Good morning everyone. My turn for the challenge today.

I would like you to do a layout using only 1 piece of card stock and 1 piece of patterned paper.
1 large photo
1 recycled item - please state.
stamping
punching
ribbon
rubons
flowers
brads
You also have to use at least 3 items from your stash that you have had for a long time...please state, is always interesting to see what others have been hording.

Even with all these things I would like you to still leave plenty of "white space"

This is my example...first page I have done of our new Grand Baby.

The PP is Little Yellow Bicycle

The recycled item is some wool that Barbie gave me ages ago..I have used it to frame the photo. (I used brads in the corners of the frame)

Items from my stock - the little silver heart was also a gift from Barbie, years ago..Thanks. .It was always just to bright for me, but I have painted it with alcohol ink and am pleased with the result.
I stamped the paper inside the frame as well as the date, also stamped the little pink circle tag that I have had for ever.

The other adore tag  and the little clear tag are left over from kits.

The flowers I have just dipped into liquid chalk to give a little extra colour..the flower up the top was a gift from Mrs Frizz. thanks!!

The punch is a new MS that just came in the other day, will try to load it on-line today.

Have fun and don't forget to share in the gallery.

It's the weekend ...

and I'm more than happy to say that ... two days ... and hopefully a little creating will make me a happy camper.

So ... your challenge this weekend ladies is a colour challenge.

I was using this platter at work recently and thought to myself, must take a photo of said platter [and I did] ... so use the colours and go forth and create.

Don't forget to upload into the gallery.
Happy creating.

I saw a sunrise!

I've been wanting to photograph a sunrise for ages but not enough to actually get out of bed and do it! lol!
Then on Sunday,  I went fishing (yes, fishing!...on a boat!.... it's been a while - 15 or more years but I caught lots!!) and we had to be up before the sun. I got some great photos. It was very foggy and freezing and my camera chose that moment to not play nicely so I couldn't quite capture all the shots I wanted...but I got a few including this one. Isn't it pretty?!?

I am going to scrap this photo...(sorry I didn't get it done already as an example for you) and my challenge for you is to also  scrap something scenic. If you don't have a photo, I can recommend getting up early to take one! Or  there's always the eclipse at 2am tonight if you dare....... happy snapping..happy scrappin

Good frosty morning too you!

It is a little bit cold here this morning, but I am snug in my warm office catching up on bookwork before I head out to the weekend sporting events...

My challenge for you this weekend is to create a page about YOU! Yes YOU RIGHT NOW!

Each year our goals and achievements change - so we should continue to create our story as the years go along.

My challenge is for you to create your page using embellishments that signify your age. That is for me who is of double figures age this year - I would use 4 blossoms, 4 brads, 4 patterned paper and so on.

Looking forward to seeing your layouts in the gallery when the weekend is over!

Thursday Challenge

Hi there,

How are you all coping with this cold weather?

My challenge for you is to do a "P" page...you know - pets, projects, points of interest, pool etc...anything that you can use a large P in your title.

Also using P things...eg..Patterned Paper, punches, paints etc...you can use lots of other things as well, just state in your comments in the gallery what P things you used.

Have fun, don't forget to share in the gallery for a chance to win a voucher.
I will try to get a page done and load later.

And it's Tuesday ...

Time for another crafty challenge .

Are you ready ???

Recently we were challenged to use our punches and just quietly, I have a few of them.

They seem to be the 'go to' tool of choice in my scrap room at the moment.

I've used my circle punch [two different sizes], a diamond edge punch, a scalloped edge punch, a frond punch and wait for it ... I was using a wee brick punch and punching out bricks and then I noticed the edge left over and thought to myself, am going to have to use that as well.

So ... if you are short a punch or two, whip into the shop and have a wee nosey ... Marg has got plenty of punches on offer.

And something a little different from me ... If you are wondering what it is that is under my layout texture-wise, it is a little gesso. This is the first time that I have used gesso on a layout [that I've shared] and I quite like the effect and I like it even more on another layout that I have been creating where I have added a little glimmermist ... but we will leave that one for another day.

There you have it ... dig out those punches ladies and be creative ... use them, work them, punch with them instead of leaving them sitting there gathering dust.

Don't forget to share your creativity in the gallery.

Happy creating.
Michelle [aka Mrs Frizz]

P.S. and yep, I'm still looking for that pot of gold!!!!  A friend of mine took these photos on her new fandangled camera and shared them with me ... lucky me ... thank you Nadine.

Tuesday's a challenge day for you

Today my challenge to you is to create using a scrapping recipe...

I would like you to use the word WINTER
as your inspiration

So with that in mind

Take 1 piece of cardstock
A strip of patterned paper 3 inches wide by 10 inches long
A circle cut from co-ordinating patterned paper about 8 inches in diameter
1 strip of patterned paper 1.5inches wide by 12 inches long
1 strip of patterned paper 1 inch wide by 12 inches long

1 photo 5 inches wide by 7 inches long - in portrait

You can ink and distress as you go along if you wish...

Adhere the 3 x 10 strip to the left hand side of your cardstock about 1.5 inches from the left
Adhere the circle to the cardstock so that it slightly overlaps the 3 x 10 strip
Adhere your photo where the circle overlaps the strip in the 2.5 inches from the top of the page
Adhere the 1.5 strip across your page so that it covers the bottom edge of your photo
Adhere the 1 strip across the top of the larger strip so that there is more of the strip showing on the bottom than the top

Place your title across the top of the two strips so that it is on the right of the photo

Embellish and make the layout your own.

Look forward to seeing your creations in the gallery

Have a great Tuesday

and it's the weekend ...

yes it is !!!

So ... with the arrival of the weekend, comes the weekend challenge for all our friends and followers.

I recently ordered a book through my work place titled "Totally Lost For Words" - creative messages for all occasions written by Kathy Schmidt and Louise Jourdan.

So ... my challenge for you this weekend.

To create a layout using one of the following quotes.

The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams ~ Eleanor Roosevelt

or you might like to use this quote ...

Your schooling may be over, but remember that your education still continues ~ Unknown

and if you can't use either of those two quotes ... here's another option.

Go confidently in the direction of your dreams.  Live the life you have imagined ~ Henry David Thoreau

Don't forget to upload your layout in the gallery.

Happy creating and enjoy your weekend.

Thursday Challenge

Thursday already???!! I'm still choosing photos for Barbie's sketch challenge on Tuesday! Never mind, I can go back to that. (As can you if you want to win those vouchers at the end of the month.........!)
This week I was challenged to do a layout without patterned paper. I have done this before but truthfully, I've never been happy with the result. Still I think we only get better at things if we keep trying so I had another go and finally I can say I like it!

So 2 choices for your challenge this week..........

1)  Scrap a layout with no patterned paper whatsoever; or
2)  Scrap using a technique you've never tried or never mastered.  (For those observant people you will see I tried one of Mish's paper pattern flowers from last week, so I actually did both challenges..he he!)

Hmm.....the possibilites are endless! Happy creating!

Weekend Challenge - Paper Flowers

Hi All,

Before I started scrapping I was an avid dressmaker - and made all my kids clothes and a lot of my own.  So in saying that I have loads of paper dress patterns stashed away.  I have seen many layouts with paper flowers made from patterns on, so my challenge to you is to create a paper blossom using a dress pattern. I have even given you a step by step to create ribbon roses.

Mother - using only 2 pieces of patterned paper - BellaBella - all my blossoms are made from dress patterns, even the twisted vines, also glimmermist, alphas from a past kit, pearls and a chipboard clock. The leaves are made using a couple of paper blossoms - Prima and BG.

Look forward to seeing your creations

Baby Talk....

Last week I became an Auntie again, I'm waiting for a friend to have her second baby and with all of us waiting for baby news from Marg's daughter, I thought we should all get in the mood and create some baby pages!

Here's a lo of my number 2 DS (but number 3 child!) to inspire you! I did do it a little while ago and the hospital photo is not the best...feel free to show me you can do better! Baby photos are soo cute.......

I see Alison has already gotten a head start in the gallery ..good on you Ali (we must be on the same wavelength) Do you think you could whip up another to go in the monthly prize draw?? I know you have more than 1 child! (lol!)
Here's the link to the gallery.

The Mid Monthly Newsletter

Is on its way...

If you don't subscribe you can read it HERE {shortly when it is archived within about 1 hour}

Your Tuesday challenge ...

I tend to scrap feminine layouts and love to use ribbons, lace, flowers and bling and make my layouts, dare I say it ... pretty.

So this week I thought we would go the other way.

Ladies, your challenge this week is to create a masculine layout.

I want you to dig deep into your stash and find some chipboard and some buttons and pop them somewhere on your layout.

I have journalled on a hidden tag which is sitting under the top edge of my papers.

Our son has a wee part time job - two shifts during the week outside school hours and on the day that this photo was taken he had just come home from an induction with his new uniform - his shirt was straight out of the packet and needless to say, someone he knew grabbed the camera quick smart.

He wasn't overly impressed with me taking his photo and did point out to me his shirt needed to be ironed.  Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ...

Happy creating ladies.
Keep warm and dry.

Thursday's Challenge - back to the beginning

Good morning everyone,

Barbie here, and today my challenge to you is to think back to the reason WHY you began scrapping.  For me it was my eldest daughter's wedding in 2002, boy that was so many layouts ago!

So what is your reason for scrapping, create a layout to reflect the reason why you began scrapping.

Looking forward to seeing your layouts in the gallery.

Have a good day...

Tuesday's Challenge

Well, it goes like this...

Today I had every intentions of creating an example for a layout for a challenge for you..... But whilst cooking dinner last night (browning off my chicken cordon bleu in the frying pan), I splashed very hot - the house was full of smoke hot - oil over my fingers. So now I have 3 fingers on my right hand taped up with burn aid and fixomul to stop blisters and scarring, and am unable to do much with my hand at all... LOL I am typing left handed to do this... do you know how long it is taking me?

So my challenge to you is to scrap an injury!

Looking forward to seeing your creations....

Weekend Challenge

Well the weekend is here once again....and Mother's Day as well tomorrow.

My challenge to you it to create a card or OTP for your Mum or for someone special, if you don't have your Mum anymore.
Just to make it interesting you have to use 4 PP ( this could be both sides of 2 papers)..have to use punches and hand make an embellishment.

I have used Kaiser papers and brad, spellbinder dies, MS punch (which I just love) New Tim Holtz flower die, the stamp is in one of my MM magnetic stamp sets....bit of ink and there you have it.

Have fun and happy Mother's Day to all the Mums. I am hoping for a new Grandbaby for Mother's Day...fingers crossed.

A little creativity in the kitchen ...

Yep, something a little different.

I found time last week to bake one night after work.

I decided to make cinnamon oysters, a first for me and I know a favourite of DH's from way back.  His sister used to bake them many moons ago.

So anyway, I decided to be a little creative in another part of the house and that would be the kitchen and I whipped up these beauties.

A real surprise for DH when he got home from work that night.

So ... my challenge for you ... to scrap a recipe, whether it be a treasured family recipe brought down through the generations; your favourite recipe or whatever or think outside the square a little and scrap pics of your children having fun in the kitchen.

I plan on scrapping this pic and the recipe at some stage.

Happy creating whether it be in the kitchen or your scrappy space.

Tuesday Challenge.....

I thought a colour inspiration challenge was in order, so here is my inspirational picture borrowed this week from We Heart It (thanks Amanda Hansen for sharing!)
 And here's my interpretation!
I've gone with the pink and blue pastels, spots and stripes and also the fun, whimsical side of the room picture and even the little hearts.
So your challenge today is to create a  lo, card or OTP using the room as inspiration. It might just be a colour you choose, or the stripes, or the cake mixer (it could be a food layout....)......or everything about it! Just have fun with it.
Don't forget to enter it in the gallery for your chance to win the monthly voucher. Good luck.
