Card Time!

Tonight I have my second 40th birthday in 2 weeks! So since, I have been making cards, I thought it a good idea if we all did! Doesn't have to be fancy...but bonus points for including a shape or two.
Here's one I made for my first friend. I won't show the one for tonight yet in case it spoils the surprise!
Happy scrapping........

Playing with fabric

Barbie was playing ... oops ... being creative with fabric earlier this week and I thought to myself, let's keep the fabric thing going ...

I've played with a little organza, a little satin, a little more organza, a little tulle and some other silky fabric - no idea what it is called though - sorry.

I've cut lots of thin strips --- nothing to that ... easy peasy!

I've then folded them over and twisted them a little and popped a stitch in underneath and then through the layers.

I haven't quite finished this one - but you can see where I am going with it [excuse the dodgy looking piece of fabric it is sitting on].

I've still got the bottom layers to go where I will have circles layered on top of each and then the strip cluster on top of them.  The layers will look similar to the bottom flower brooch which I have made ... but this one gives you some idea of how it looks as a work in progress ...

We have lots of layers on this one - once I've cut out all my circles I have run the edges through a burning candle to get them to curl ... Once I've layered them all together and put a stitch through the layers, I've actually put a safety pin underneath and had my wee creation pinned to a scarf which I wore to work ... loved the way this little treasure turned out.

This one received quite a few comments from work colleagues today.

Just another way of being creative ... scrap it, pop it on a card or wear it ...

All in the name of creativity.
Happy creating.

A weekend challenge

Well no scrapping has been done in my house for such a long time - I almost do not know where to begin to start again - that is probably why I am doing silly things like gardening... I have been in this house for 10 years and I have finally decided that it was time that I established a garden.  So have spent the past couple of days digging sand and moving it from an existing garden bed (which had nothing growing in it - but weeds or should that be exotic herbs :-)!!!!) and creating a new shaped garden bed - and typical I choose the warmest days to start shovelling!

Anyways my weekend challenge for you is to scrap a photo or layout that you have been putting off for ages - we all have one of those don't we?

Have fun - now back to digging...

Oh my poor blistered calloused hands... hehehehe!

It's the weekend ...

I thought this weekend, I would talk you through a tutorial ...
Have fun ladies.

To make this card you will need :

12 x 12 cardstock
6.5 x 6.5 pad or 12 x 12 patterned paper
Ink
Circle punch
Butterfly punch
Twine
Hot glue gun

Trimmer, adhesive, scoring tool [makes life a little easier]

Here you go :

Cut a strip of cardstock 4 inches by 12 inches

Score at 4 inch intervals i.e., three scores

Fold – ink all edges both sides

Cut six squares of paper 3 ¼ inches by 3 ¼ inches

Using your circle punch, punch a 1/3 of a circle into one edge [roughly]

Adhere double sided tape to remaining three sides, centre and adhere to each panel on your card – both sides of cardstock

Cut tags or better still use journal tags, ink edges, punch hole, thread and tie twine and insert into each pouch on your card

Cut a 1 inch strip of cardstock to form a sleeve, ink edges

Cut a strip of patterned paper slightly smaller than your sleeve, ink edges and adhere with double sided tape to your sleeve

Tie thread/ twine around your sleeve and knot or tie a bow

Punch a butterfly from co-ordinating paper

Adhere using hot glue gun so that the glue adheres not only the butterfly but through the twine to hold it in place as well.

Here are two examples of your finished card, all folded sitting in its sleeve.

Now you could embellish your sleeve further, you could write love messages on your tags or perhaps inspirational quotes and send to a friend

Marg has the Kaisercraft paper pads and journaling tags in the shop

I made both cards from one piece of 12x12 cardstock including the sleeves

Happy creating.

Enjoy.

Blind Scrapping Challenge

Good morning all - it's been a while!

but now I have become a lady of leisure again I am hoping that I can start scrapping again soon...

So here is my challenge for you this week

BLIND SCRAPPING
Materials needed:
1 x cardstock
3 x patterned paper
ribbon
Alphas
Embellishments to suit
2 photos 1 landscape 6 x 4 and one portrait 6 x 4

Cut the first piece of pp so that it measures 10.5"square
Stick to cardstock
Cut 2nd pp to 8.5" x 6"
Cut 3rd pp to 3" x 8.5"
Stick the 3 x 8.5 pp to the layout ¼ inch from the bottom left hand side
Overlap the last pp piece ½ inch from the bottom left hand side

Cut ribbon into 2 pieces 13" long, stick to the layout about ½ inch down from the top left hand side.  Stick the second piece of ribbon across the layout starting about ½ inch from top right hand side of your page.  Add some bling dots or brads across this piece of ribbon.

Time for the photos.  Landscape photo - adhere to the bottom of the LHS corner of your layout leaving a small border of your 3 x 8 piece of patterned paper.
Grab the portrait photo and stick it so that it overlaps the two strips of patterned paper.

Place your title above your landscape photo.  Now it's time to embellish and make this layout your own.

Have fun and don't forget to share in the gallery.

Weekend Challenge

Hi there everyone,

Hope you are enjoying your weekend.

My challenge for you is to create a double layout using at least 7 photos....also using your punches or die cuts...see we are trying to get you to use your tools...lol. As well as that you have to use a sticker other than alpha's...the sticker I used I have had for a verrry long time.

This is my example.

I have used one of the designer kits from some time ago.

Have fun and don't forget to share in the gallery.

Take care,

Card challenge

I'm not a big card maker but I have all of these cool Border and Round The Page Punches which make it super easy.
I got to use up lots of scraps too!
So a nice simple challenge this week, since I was late uploading the Challenge - to make some cards with your scraps, using up some of those punches/embossing/cutting dies we all keep stockpiling.
Give it a go - it's quick and easy and you still get to enter the monthly prize draw when you upload your creations to the Gallery

Happy scrapping

It's Tuesday ...

The weeks seem to be flying by at the moment and really, there are just not enough hours in the day.

I've got to make the most of all of those hours and last night, knowing that I was blogging today, well I was a little creative with some cardstock and a gorgeous Jenni Bowlin paper from Marg's shop.

I printed off a free templae from My Time Made Easy, scored, folded, inked and then embellished and came up with this.

Easy, peasy.

I thought I might just fill it with a few wee treats - some friendship quotes typed on wee cards would be a wonderful idea as well.

So how about you find yourself a template and actually use it, make it up and share with us.

Happy creating.

Saturday Scraplift...featuring circles

Hi all, it's a beautiful weekend here in WA, but don't let that stop you scrapping!!!
My challenge for you this weekend is to scraplift this cool layout shared by Cassie Bellemore in a Scrapbook Magazine (oops..I forgot which one and I borrowed it from a friend!)

So here's my scraplift:

Of the layout above.
It's quite a simple layout, not too fussy, and it would be really cool if you could do the layout about yourself since most if us don't do that often enough! I still have some journalling to add but I chose the wrong circle, so thinking I might have to do mine in the white space around the edge...

Happy scrapping

A challenge ...

yep, something for you to think about ...

Just in case you didn't know, rugby fever has hit us big time at the bottom of the world, well in New Zealand.

So my challenge for you is to scrap or create - nothing difficult in that ... but what I want you to think about ... are some of the countries that are playing rugby in the Rugby World Cup tournament.

In particular, I want you to think about the countries and their flags ... yep, that's your challenge ...

Pick a country that is playing the 2011 Rugby World Cup 2011 and create a layout in those colours.

Black and white are neutral colours, so they are allowed regardless.

So ...

Australia - goes without saying that you will know the colours of the Australian flag, so too for New Zealand - now you should know that as well - just saying.

But if you like something with a little more bright colour - how about the Romania flag - red, blue and yellow or Japan's flag - white and red - how about the colours of Scottish flag or Argentina's flag.

Don't forget to upload to the gallery.

Happy creating.

Thursday Challenge

Hi everyone,

Sorry looks like we missed Tuesday's challenge....oops.

I have been away with my Mum, who had a hip replacement yesterday...all went really well!!

So after spending time in hospitals for the last 3 days, my challenge to you is to do a layout about a sickness or operation....or anything to do with health.

To make it interesting can you also add these things to it:

  • Hand made flowers or embellishments
  • Stickers of some sort
  • Ribbon
  • Eyelets
  • Chipboard shape or alpha
  • More than 2 pp
Thanks, look forward to seeing what you all come up with.

Cheers,
Marg. x

Weekend Challenge...better late than never!

Someone asked me the other day where I got all my ideas from and if I ever got stuck for ideas. (Of course we all do!) I told them that I had a favourite basis that I always fall back to, and it can look completely different each time you do it, depending on the colours, papers, photos and embellishments you choose.
Just to prove it....I created 2 identical layouts tonight using completely different paper ranges. I don't think they look the same at all, do you??

Do you have a favourite tried and true recipe you always go back to? Or a favourite colour combination?? What about something you can't leave off a page? (ie. Ink, Buttons, Stickers..etc) Tell us about it and then scrap a page showing us.
Happy creating...
